“Not to brag, but I just made a really big purchase”, “Where did you go?”, “The gas station!”. This is one of the most recent memes I’ve seen relating to the high gas prices we are currently seeing in the United States.
Gas prices have been on the rise since the spring and haven’t budged since. With the summer holiday season upon us, many Americans are frustrated about wanting to travel and gas prices being so high.
Is there a way I can get cheaper gas? Are there any gas apps that offer gas for free? Or can I earn cash back on my gas purchases? All of those questions and more will be answered below.
>>> Tip: Swagbucks is a free online rewards program that gives you real cash for your everyday online activities – including scanning receipts for buying gas!
What Gas Stations Offer Discounts?
Some gas stations are offering small discounts to entice people to fuel up at their stores. Finding which stations are offering discounts is the key to finding the cheapest gas. Holiday gas stations offer 10 cents per gallon off discounts when users sign up for their text alerts. After that, you will receive a weekly gas coupon, generally for 5 or 7 cents per gallon off.
Costco gas stations are generally 20 to 30 cents cheaper than other gas stations. If you are a Costco member you can save money by filling up your car there. Sam’s Club offers similar gas prices to their members as well.
Are There Gas Apps That Offer Free Gas?
The big question is, can I save money at the gas station from my phone? The big answer: yes! Some apps offer cash back and other rewards on gas purchases.
The GasBuddy app offers data for the nearest gas station in your area and in whatever radius you put in. The app displays all of the prices so you can choose which gas station has the best price. In addition to that, they offer a fuel savings card which entitles you to 25 cents off per gallon at most stations nationwide. Did I mention it’s a free app? For free, you can save 25 cents per gallon. Don’t walk, run to go download the app!
Another gas app that offers excellent deals is the GetUpside app. The GetUpside app offers cash back on purchases, including gas purchases. This gas cash back app works at Speedway, Shell stations, BP, Marathon, and more. You’re already going to spend the money to fill up, why not earn cash back in the process? This app will help you save money in the long run.
These are just two gas apps out of the hundreds out there. If these aren’t your favorite you are sure to find other gas savings apps that work better for you. These two are just my personal favorite.
Why Are Gas Prices So High?
Every fill-up for me recently has been around $50, when in the past it was never that high. And that’s in Fargo where prices are cheap compared to nationwide prices.
Why are gas prices so high in the first place? The biggest reason for gas prices being so high right now is that the price of crude oil is insanely high. Expensive oil translates to expensive gas.
There are ways you can combat these insane gas prices though! When you sign up for gas rewards at your favorite local stations they often will offer fuel discounts. For example, when you sign up for Holiday Stations rewards you will receive a weekly gas coupon.
Gas cashback apps are another great way to help save at the pump. Apps like GasBuddy and GetUpside are great apps to try out. If you’re looking for another gas discount app you can try Swagbucks or InboxDollars. They both offer cash back on groceries, all you do is scan in your receipt. Gas receipts work too.
The main way that we have found you can save money on gas is through cashback offers. If you’re going to spend the money anyway, why not earn some cash back? Out of all the apps we have gone over, the best gas app is probably the GetUpside app. They offer the best gas cash-back deals.
Can I Earn Cash Back On Gas When I Use My Credit or Debit Card?
Can I earn cash back on gas when I use my credit or debit card? The short answer is yes. The long answer is it depends on what card you are using. The app GasBuddy offers a specific card to its users that have the cashback and discount deal attached to it.
Other credit and debit cards offer cash back too. It will depend on the card you choose and what specific cash back offers it has. The cashback money you earn from using your credit or debit card would then be deposited into the bank account it is attached to.
Another way to earn free gas money is to take surveys online. Using online sites like Swagbucks and InboxDollars you can take short surveys and earn free money. This can then be used for whatever you want and is a great way to get gas money.
Final Thoughts on Free Gas Apps
If you are in a pinch and need to find the cheapest gas, apps like GasBuddy are the way to go! The GetUpside app is also great for those looking to find cheaper gas and earn cash back on fill-ups. Free gas apps are a great idea for anyone who will be driving a gas-powered vehicle during these times of insane gas prices.
