Owning a pet can turn out to be more costly than expected. High-quality dog food for your Dachshund can set you back a few dollars. Not to mention the annual veterinary check-ups, health care costs, and heartworm medication. And then there are those four pairs of chewed up sneakers that you never got around to replacing. What if your beloved doggo could earn you some money instead of just costing you money?
Sign Up as a Dog Walker
If you own a dog, chances are that you are going for doggy walks a couple of times a week, if not every day. Why not spend that time taking someone else’s pooch for a walk too. Making extra money while doing something that you would be doing anyway is the best kind of side hustle!
There are a couple of apps that you can sign up with to find work. For example, Rover.com. You could also make flyers to put up at your local vet or pet store to advertise your dog walking services. As far as capital investment goes, this one is a breeze. You do not need to have any mad skills or qualifications to walk dogs. Just a love for animals and a few spare hours in your week!
Instadog Instafamous!
Who doesn’t love taking pics of their beloved hound looking charmingly cute in all their muddy glory on your newly cleaned sofa? There are very few doting dog owners who can resist snapping pics of their pets and posting them on Instagram! Why not turn this hobby into a money-making side gig.
Make money off your pet’s Instagram profile by building a big following. Leverage this following into sponsored posts and free products. If you have enough of a following, you might even be able to earn income promoting other brands and services on your Instagram account. With time, you could even develop a line of merchandise and make money from the sale of these goods too.
How to Create a Pet Instagram Account
Be creative and consistent with the content that you post. Try to channel your pup’s personality so that the posts are endearing and relatable. Great pics are a must.
Do a bit of research on how other Instafamous pooches do it. Check out famous dog profiles, and the hashtags and style of posting that they use to get thousands of likes. If the Golden retriever is one of your favorite dog breeds, you will want to check out Tucker Budzyn’s IG profile! Another one of my personal favorites is @northwestmommy and her two gorgeous Newfoundlands.
How to Make Money off My Dog with a Blog
This pet side gig will take a little more time and effort than an Instagram account. However, if you enjoy writing and doing research about what is best for your pet, blogging could be a fantastic option for you. To earn money from their posts, bloggers promote products and earn a commission from the sale of these items. Are there pet products that you love to use? Include affiliate links in your blog posts and receive income from any purchases made by your referrals. You can also monetize your blog by selling advertising space on it.
Submit Dog Pictures for Money
Do you have a knack for photography and have a photogenic pup? Make money on the side by selling photos of your dog on a stock photography site. Big brands are always looking for stock photos to use in their marketing campaigns and social media posts. If you have a bit of spare time on your hands, you can do a couple of photoshoots with your hound dressed up in various outfits in a selection of settings. You will need a patient pooch and more than a handful of dog treats!
Can My Dog Make Money as a Movie Star?
Pal, the first dog actor to play Lassie made the equivalent of $51,000 per week. Moose (AKA Eddie in the sitcom Frasier) earned in the region of $10,000 per episode!
This could be a bit of a long haul, but it is worth a shot. If your dog is trained, well-behaved, and well-socialized, then you could sign up with a pet agency. Check if they have an upfront placement fee and whether the salary that your pooch could potentially earn is worth the hassle of going to castings and being on set.
Create a YouTube Channel for Your Dog
If all that fuss is not your thing, but you still fancy your dog’s on-camera skills, why not create a YouTube channel for your pet? You can save money for your vet bills with advertisements and affiliate links posted with your doggos YouTube videos. Check out the YouTube tutorial videos on how to enable your videos for monetization. You can also link your YouTube channel to a Google AdSense account to make money from Google ads.
